One of the things the Abbotts team heard most throughout the 2021 event season – whether taking, delivering or collecting orders – was that “we have so much to catch up on!” This summer was essentially two seasons rolled into one – between all the cancelled celebrations from 2020 being reorganised, as well as all the year’s usual weddings and events – almost every day of the calendar featured an event of some kind.
For us, this meant expanding our operations to a never-before-seen scale. Our wonderful hire advisors and tireless drivers alike were constantly organising and delivering orders of our items to a range of locations across the South West – and we’ve never been happier!
So, we thought we’d give you a quick rundown of how the summer unfolded for us here at Abbotts Event Hire; a little behind-the-scenes of what went into making the wedding season to end all wedding seasons happen!
Easing into the Season
The restrictions still in place at the beginning of summer placed a cap on the number of people that could attend an event, but it was simply amazing to see our customers’ resolve and creativity in the face of these limitations.
Some wedding celebrations became much more personalised, intimate affairs due to the lower numbers, giving couples the ability to really stamp their personality on their ceremonies and receptions. Bold linen colours, centrepiece furniture and luxurious cutlery, crockery and glassware combos were the name of the game – meaning our one-stop-shop of goods was in high demand from the off.
Into Full Swing
Before we knew it though, weddings were back to their usual spectacle and returning to regular capacities. The outdoor reception still reigned supreme, leading to some of the most intricate open air setups we’ve ever seen – truly some magical days and evenings.
Marquees were filled with guests seeing their friends and loved ones for the first time in months, and the atmosphere at these events was electric. But, the party never missed a beat thanks to Abbotts’ selection of outdoor units – with fridge trailers and luxury toilets seamlessly taking the regality and elegance of indoor events to rural locations like never before.
However, little did we know… all of this was preparing us for the largest event in Abbotts’ esteemed history!
Over a beautifully sunny weekend in June, Carbis Bay in our home county of Cornwall hosted the 47th G7 summit – and yours truly, Abbotts Event Hire, were asked to provide a number of items for use across the weekend.
Naturally, there was a lot of excitement around the team as we packaged up our finest cutlery, crockery and furniture to be used by the world leaders, and just as much debate afterwards over which of our bowls was used by President Biden!
We can’t talk too much about the event itself, but being able to offer our services and providing our solutions – such as our ‘return dirty’ service – to some of the most prestigious guests in the world was a real honour and we’re proud to represent the best the South West can offer!
So there you have it! A rollercoaster of a season that has only kept its momentum even into early autumn – but it’s always important to take a moment from time to time to reflect.
